About Thanksgiving

The holiday is often linked to a harvest feast shared in 1621 by the Plymouth colonists and the Wampanoag people. Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national day of thanksgiving in 1863, and Congress fixed the date in 1941. Roast turkey, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie are traditional, and the Macy's parade in New York has been a morning fixture for generations.

When is Thanksgiving?

In the US it falls on the fourth Thursday of November, while Canada celebrates its own Thanksgiving on the second Monday in October, which is why the dates differ.
